Tally and Shopify Integration

A Tally–Shopify integration posts each Shopify order as a sales voucher in TallyPrime, with the right ledgers, GST rates and inventory items, and records payouts and refunds without manual entry. Most D2C brands need it once they pass about 20 orders a day, when re-typing orders into Tally starts causing errors and delays.

How the integration works

  1. Shopify sends a webhook when an order is created, paid, refunded or fulfilled.
  2. The integration maps the order to a Tally sales voucher: customer ledger, sales ledger by GST rate, item-wise stock entries, shipping and discount ledgers.
  3. A connector on the Tally machine posts the voucher through Tally's XML interface and confirms success.
  4. Failures are logged and retried, and anything that cannot be posted is flagged for a person to review.

Ready-made connector or custom build

Connectors work well for standard catalogues and simple GST. A custom integration suits you when you have multiple warehouses or GSTINs, marketplace and website orders together, bundle products, or specific ledger conventions your accountant relies on.

Common pitfalls

  • GST rate mismatches between Shopify product settings and Tally stock items.
  • Tally closed or offline at night, so the connector must queue and retry.
  • Payout reconciliation: Shopify payouts net off fees and refunds, so they need splitting into the right ledgers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Tally need to be on the cloud for this to work?

No. A small connector running on the computer or server where TallyPrime runs is enough. Tally on a cloud server simply makes it available around the clock.

Can stock update from Tally back to Shopify?

Yes. Stock levels can be read from Tally on a schedule and pushed to Shopify, so the website does not sell items that are out of stock.

What about marketplace orders from Amazon or Flipkart?

They can flow into the same Tally company through the same integration, each with its own sales ledger, so reports separate channels cleanly.
